Bushi-Kai Dojo

WELCOME TO

Bushi-Kai Dojo

a traditional Japanese kobudo dojo with instruction in the lost art of Iai-Ken-Do; training in the katana and tachi...

Bushi-Kai dojo, founded by 6th dan sensei, Norman J. Ryan, was organized in 1989, after Sensei Ryan created the Iai-Ken-Do system. With previous training and ranking in Iaido, Kumdo, Karate-Do, Hap Ki Do, and Tae Kwon Do, Sensei Ryan decided that it was time to combine some of the traditional Asian sword arts into one useable and practical system...

Iai-Ken-Do, combines the cut and drawing techniques of Iaido with the block and counter maneuvers of the "ken" and "kum" arts, rounded with practical self-defense and sparring movements found in some of the "te" systems.

Bushi-Kai dojo is the only school authorized to teach Master Ryan's Iai-Ken-Do system. Future dojo may be considered, but only after interested sensei have trained under Master Ryan long enough to carry on his teachings.

Bushi-Kai is currently sharing space with Sensei Jim Curtis' Shudo-Kai Okinawan Karate dojo, located in Renton, Washington. The full address is: 10728 SE Carr Rd. Renton, Washington 98055. The phone number is 425-432-7610.
